It has been almost more than a year that we haven’t met each other; I always had a very positive impression about him. A creative guy, an enthusiastic youth leader and a social entrepreneur, Last time when I was at his village, he had shown many things that he and his team has done in their village. They had started a small library without any support from donor organization. They had a small saving group where they used to save some amount of money every week. They had formed a youth group to protect their community forest and already started plantation of some herbs. Everything was so appreciating. I hadn’t read a single spot of frustration on his face. Though he had expected some fund from V.D.C, as they were youth they were not supported a single penny. Not only V.D.C local political leaders were also in against of their campaign, as we all aware about the politics in Nepal.
After a year, I got call from an unknown number; the voice said “Namaste”. It was the same soft and energetic voice. He had decided to go abroad and before leaving Nepal he wanted to meet me. The next day we met at a tea shop. He said “I am going Arab day after tomorrow”. I am confused, is he a same energetic guy? The same entrepreneur who had brought many changes in his village? I was paused for some minutes. I just said; take care, have a safe journey. Please return soon with some skills and knowledge, the country needs you.
The whole night I think about him, why he want to go abroad? What made him so frustrated? The politics? The conservative society? The more expectation from his parents?
Thousands of youth are moving in the same way, what will the effect of this mass migration? Have anybody has taken it in seriously?
After some months, I again went to his village, the library was not there, youth saving group has been already collapsed, and community forest users group was inactive. It was very hard to meet a single guy of age 20.
The village was just waiting “HIS” return for the continuity of the projects he had started and for the transformation of society. Who knows what he is doing in the desert of ARAB? Who knows when he will come back again?
