Youth For Anti-Smoking in Nepal.

In an interaction program held in Kathmandu on Saturday, 80 youths from Kathmandu valley committed that they will never smoke in their life. The interaction program was organized by the Creative Youth Society on the theme –”Youth and Tobacco: Problems and its Solutions Step.”

The data was presented in the program that per day 4.4 billions cigarettes are used per day in Nepal, which costs 60 million rupees per day. The cost is about 250 billion per year.

The program discussed about the Health as well as socio-economic effects of smoking, Dr. Sushila Baidya, Cancer specialist from Nepal Cancer relief Society informed about about the health hazards of smoking, she said there’s high chances of lung cancer due to smoking, not only smokers but passive smokers are also in the high risk. Dr. baidya said Nepalese women’s are listed on the top of World’s most smoking list. Mr. Rajiv Nakarmi, ex drug-user talked on “how one is involved from smoking to drug abuse”. He said he had curiosity towards smoking and used to smoke, thinking smoking makes himself HERO, but now he realized that if he hadn’t smoke, he will never fell into drug abuse which ruined his youth life. Prof Dr. Panna thapa, president Nepal pharmacy council, DEAN KU said youth should be positive towards life and they should not be involved in smoking which is a bad habit.

Creative youth society (CYS) is organizing anti-smoking awareness campaigns in schools, colleges and communities. Till now 5,000 young students have participated its awareness program. And the number is now 5080.
